Birch Hagg is thought to be over 170 years old, and featured on the first edition Ordnance Survey in 1856. The barn has been used as a camping barn for many years, including by young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, with the original information panels still on display today.  Following over 20 years out of use, we are delighted to have restored this historic building to provide simple accommodation for groups visiting the North York Moors.  The restoration project has been supported by the Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) Programme.

As you enter the barn you step into the main room which features a log burning stove and a large table with benches to gather together for meals and plan the next day’s adventures. There is also a basic kitchen area with sink with hot and cold running water.

The barn is single storey.  The main sleeping area is furnished with sturdy, full size bunk beds and sleeps up to 10 guests. There is also a separate bedroom that sleeps 2, which can be used for group leaders.

There is a wheelchair accessible shower with toilet and a separate toilet.

The area around the barn is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and therefore outdoor camp fires are strictly forbidden.
